189 New Coronavirus Cases In RI; 18 Deaths
Rhode Island now has a total of 13,571 coronavirus cases and 556 deaths.
PROVIDENCE, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 189 new cases of the coronavirus Thursday and 18 additional deaths, bringing the state's totals to 13,571 cases and 556 fatalities.
As of Thursday, 254 people were hospitalized. Of these, 56 were in intensive care units and 41 were on ventilators. While Rhode Island has seen a slight increase in hospitalizations over the past days, the data has showed a plateau and general downward trend since late April.
The same is true for the total number of cases, which have trended downward since the state's peak of 427 new cases in one day April 23. While there have been some slight spikes in case numbers since then, the number of cases reported per day has fallen since then, a trend Gov. Gina Raimondo has said is a good sign that the state is on a good track toward reopening further.
