6 RI Companies Named Among America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023
The RI companies that made the list share common values such as competitive salaries and benefits, equity and diversity, Newsweek said.
RHODE ISLAND — Six companies headquartered in Rhode Island were recently named to the America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023 rankings released by Newsweek and its data partner, Plant-A Insights Group.
Newsweek used a 5-star rating system to rank companies. The rating is based on a national survey on benefits, workplace environment, career development, empowerment of women, promotion of veterans, development of entry-level employees and support for LGBTQ+ employees.

- A&H Manufacturing, an utilities/packaging and containers company, which employs between 1,000 and 4,999 people and has revenue between $250 million and $500 million, received a 4-star rating. The company was founded in 1960.
- Amica, a financial services/insurance underwriting company, which employs 1,000 to 4,999 people and has revenues between $1 billion and $5 billion, received a 5-star rating. The company was founded in 1907.
- Citizens, a banking/consumer finance company, which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 people and has revenue between $5 billion and $10 billion, received a 5-star rating. The company was founded in 1828.
- FM Global, an insurance services/underwriting company, which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 workers and has revenues between $5 billion and $10 billion, received a 5-star rating. The company was founded in 1835.
- Health Concepts, a health care services company, which employs between 1,000 and 4,999 workers and has revenue between $100 million and $250 million, received a 4-star rating.
- Textron, a company that makes semiconductors, aerospace and defense products and more, which employs 20,000 to 99,999 people and has revenue above $10 billion, receive a 4.5-star rating. The company was founded in 1923.
To develop the ranking, Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group surveyed companies employing at least 1,000 people about their employment experience and also consulted more than 389,000 company reviews.
The companies that made the final ranking share common values such as competitive salaries and benefits, equity and diversity, and a workplace culture that is open to new ideas, Newsweek said. Additionally, the companies provide comfortable working environments while encouraging career development and work-life balance.

Companies that create “great workplaces” benefit from increased productivity and lower turnover rates that contribute to stability while employees benefit from better physical and mental health, the magazine said. Those employees tend to take fewer sick days, are less likely to experience burnout, and provide excellent service to their customers and colleagues.
