Construction Complete On Part Of Route 6

The project wrapped up approximately $250,000 under budget, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said.

SCITUATE, RI — Construction on part of Route 6 in Johnston is complete. On Tuesday, Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti and other officials gathered to announce the progress on the crumbling roadway.

The completed segment is about three-and-a-half miles long, running from Route 101 to Route 102 in Scituate, coming in around $250,000 under its $8.1 million budget.

"The RhodeWorks program has directed hundreds of millions of dollars toward badly needed bridge and road repair projects and Route 6 stood out as being one of the worst - a road we had to visit often to keep it passable and a source of constant headaches for motorists," Alviti said.

This section of construction is part of ongoing work on Route 6 and 6A in Johnston and Scituate. Since last year, RIDOT crews repaved part of Route 6A, also known as Hartford Avenue, from Killingy Street to Atwood Avenue in Johnston. Route 6 has been repaved from Interstate 295 in Johnston to Danielson Pike in Scituate and from Danielson Pike to Route 101 in Scituate. Also repaved in Scituate: Route 101 from Route 6 to 101 and Rockland Road from Central Pike to Danielson Pike. All together, the state invested $24.4 million in these projects, RIDOT said.

In the nest few years, more upgrades are planned for Route 6, including improvements to four intersections across Scituate and Foster, at Elmdale Road, Route 102, Route 94 and Cucumber Hill Road, starting in late 2020 to early 2021 and costing $15.7 million.
