Cranston Police Nab Fugitive Wanted for Break-Ins Between 2009-2010
A woman who fled to Florida to avoid prosecution for a string of break-ins in 2009 and 2010 has been arrested after a four-year effort.

Cranston Police don’t forget.
A woman allegedly responsible for a string of break-ins in Cranston and Warwick in 2009 and 2010 learned that lesson on Saturday when Cranston officers arrested her as she left a city residence — four years after she allegedly fled to Florida to avoid prosecution.
Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist said that Sophors Suong, 33, of Gulfport, Fla., failed to show up in court in 2010 to answer to charges of breaking and entering and larceny. Instead, she took off to Florida, the chief said, but Cranston officers “continued to work diligently to track Ms. Suong over the past four years, collaborating with law enforcement agencies throughout the country.”

Recently, detectives learned that Suong was back in Rhode Island and soon, they were able to figure out where she was staying. They set up surveillance and shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, they saw her walk out of a house and get into a car as a passenger.
The car was stopped on Briggs Street and Suong allegedly gave false information about her identity at first.

She is now being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after being arraigned by a Justice of Peace on an obstruction of justice charge for giving a false name to police at the traffic stop.
Suong is due to appear in Superior Court today.
Police said Suong allegedly stole hundreds of items during the breaking and enterings in Cranston between 2009 and 2010. Most of the stolen items were precious metals and diamonds.
“I commend the Cranston Police Detectives for their efforts that led to yesterday’s apprehension of a fugitive who is alleged to have victimized multiple residents in Cranston and Warwick by breaking into their homes and stealing personal belongings,” Winquist said. “The persistence of these Detectives to track the suspect for the past four years has paid off. Ms. Suong must now answer to the charges, as well as the victims of the crimes she is alleged to have committed.”
