Representative Ranglin-Vassell (D-Dist. 5, Providence) organized a Community Response to Joblessness and Gun Violence last summer to address the high incidence of gun violence and its underlying cause, poverty, through investment in small businesses, job creation, strengthening the police-community relationship and legislative initiatives designed to make neighborhoods safer.

The event was planned with the assistance of the Providence Office of Economic Opportunity.

“It’s our sincere hope that by helping people connect with good employers, we can lift up our community. There is less violence in communities where people are able to provide for themselves and their families, and aren’t facing the struggles, the suffering and the hopelessness of poverty. Every step we take toward reducing poverty is a step toward a safer and brighter future for our communities,” said Representative Ranglin-Vassell.
