Serial Shrimp Thief Identified as Jonathan A. Beharry by Police

The man who is accused of stealing massive quantities of frozen shrimp from area Stop and Shops has been identified as 30-year-old Jonathan A. Beharry, 30, of Providence.

Cranston Police have been trying to identify Beharry for about a month since his recent string of shrimp thefts, which targeted the Garfield Avenue Stop and Shop repeatedly in February and March.

Police said he is believed to be stealing shrimp from other supermarkets in the area.

Police initially released a grainy image of the suspect in late March. They followed up with better images of Beharry about a week later that showed two of the hats in his collection, better facial details and the fact that he is bald.

In most cases such as these, the shrimp ends up sold to restaurants or other businesses that don’t mind dipping their toes in the black market.
