Home Repair Program Hosts Workshop Tonight

Local homeowners looking for help to fund repairs can meet town officials tonight at the senior center.

The Johnston-North Providence Home Repair Program — a joint effort between the two towns to provide no-interest loans to eligible homeowners — is scheduled to hold an application workshop tonight at the starting at 7:30 p.m.

Announced in December by Mayors Joseph Polisena of Johnston and Charles Lombardi of North Providence, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides up to $10,000 in no-repayment loans, repaid when the home is sold or transferred, to each homeowner who meets the program's guidelines.

Johnston has about $170,000 in its account for the program; North Providence is providing another $130,000 for homeowners in that community.
