📰 News we're reading

1. Aquidneck Resilience Seeks Public Input for Climate Resilience Plan (newportthisweek.com) — Middletown residents are being asked to share their experiences with flooding, erosion, and coastal access as part of Aquidneck Resilience's island-wide climate resilience plan. Recent listening sessions highlighted flooding near the airport and erosion at popular Middletown shoreline access points, and more meetings and an online survey invite broader input. Participants can even attend a Norman Bird Sanctuary session or a Spanish-language meeting with free meal and preparedness kit.

2. Middletown Schools OK Forest Avenue Restroom Fee, CTE (upriseri.com) — Middletown families should know the School Committee just approved about $70,000 to redesign restroom plans at Forest Avenue School after state reviewers flagged missing bathrooms near pre-K and kindergarten classrooms. Members also greenlit a new CTE sports medicine program starting this year, updated grading and special education policies, and heard that enrollment declines are slowing while construction tours at the high school continue.

3. Rhode Island Foundation offering up to $10,000 for Newport County community projects; deadline is Sept. 24 (whatsupnewp.com) — Middletown groups are eligible for Rhode Island Foundation neighborhood grants of up to $10,000 for projects that bring residents together, with applications due Sept. 24. The program supports visible, resident-led efforts like gatherings, public space improvements, cultural preservation, and arts or volunteer projects, but excludes ongoing operations and political activities. Local organizations such as the town of Middletown have benefited in past funding rounds.

4. Who won Thursday's RI high school games? We've got it covered (newportri.com) — Middletown High's girls soccer team shut out Narragansett 2-0, and the football team is set to travel to East Greenwich for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The statewide roundup also lists dozens of other Thursday scores and Friday schedules in soccer, volleyball, tennis, field hockey, and football. Local fans can track how Middletown stacks up and plan which games to catch next.

5. Newport Schools Chief's Goals Approved Amid RICAS Push (upriseri.com) — Middletown parents should watch closely as Newport's superintendent plans a meeting with Middletown's schools chief to explore sharing services, a move that could affect budgets and programs in both districts. Newport's School Committee also approved six goals focused on raising RICAS scores, tightening graduation standards, reviewing grade configurations, and preparing a lean FY28 budget that may require staffing changes.

The lamp 's bulb socket is loose and flops around, although it still works properly. I feel unformfortable using it in case there is a safety hazard… (Nextdoor W Main Rd / E Main Rd)
