Middletown Council Moves to End Most Impact Fees (upriseri.com) — Middletown's Town Council is moving toward ending most impact fees on new development by year's end, which could significantly cut costs for new homes but leave a gap in funding for fire, police, recreation, and town facilities. Only sewer impact fees would largely remain, even as the town has not identified how it would replace more than a million dollars in past infrastructure revenue. Residents will soon see a draft ordinance and should watch how the town plans to fund future projects.
   

2. Where Are We Going to Live? (newportthisweek.com) — Middletown is at the center of Aquidneck Island's housing crunch, with a key apartment proposal for the former McDonald's site at 149 West Main Road now stalled despite similar projects advancing in Newport. Local housing committees in Middletown and Newport are searching for ways to add apartments while facing pushback over density and neighborhood impacts. Candidates are being pressed to explain how they'd actually get new homes built.
   

3. Lowest regular gas price in Newport County hits $3.99 for week ending Sept. 19 (southcotimes.com) — Drivers in Middletown are seeing regular gas around the mid-$4 range, with the lowest reported price in Newport County dipping to $3.99 per gallon during the week ending Sept. 19. County and statewide averages are higher, and analysts say international tensions, refinery issues, and seasonal demand are all helping keep prices elevated and volatile.
   

4. North Providence football stays unbeaten with second straight shutout (newportri.com) — Middletown High's football team was shut out 12-0 on the road by North Providence, which stayed unbeaten behind two touchdowns from running back Kaiden Wray. The Islanders twice drove deep into the red zone but couldn't score, including a late first-half series that ended at the Cougars' 11-yard line. North Providence then controlled the clock after halftime, limiting Middletown to one second-half possession.
