I am, in no way, shape, or, form, a 'Techie', nor, do I own, any, particular, skill, with respect to technology. Actually, I, just, 'muddle-through', able to accomplish the, simple, tasks, which I perform on the computer. This being noted, I have to admit that, regardless of the fact that I do, still, enjoy doing things the 'old-fashioned' way, e.g. going to the library to research, writing a check to pay a bill, etc., I can, easily, take advantage of the convenience(s) associated with the WWW. I find myself, thinking of this, as I've renewed a library book, via the internet, this AM. It is true, that, in this 'day and age', one need NEVER leave his or her home, if one chose; for, technology enables one to perform, many, tasks, right from the comfort of a living-room chair, up to and including shopping on line for, almost, anything, including groceries. All, but for the need for the, occasional, 'human-interaction', reporting to a job, lest, it be accomplished at home, or, the necessary, Doctor's appointment, most, folks, today, could, due to these, 'conveniences', comfortably, continue to 'camp-out', in their homes, and, accomplish, MOST anything, they need do. Add to this the 'entertainment-end' of what technology provides, well...as I say, some, folks, could, opt, to NEVER leave their abodes. It is the world we live in...I know; yet, at times, as I didn't grow-up with this advanced-technology, I, STILL, can find myself amazed by it; whereas, the youth of today, knowing nothing else, are, mostly, less than impressed. The thing is, the technology that we ARE familiar with, is NOTHING, compared to what, actually, exists. Once upon a time, not so long ago, the dreams, ideas, and, imaginings, of a 'high-tech' world, were just that. Today, they are as real as you and me. Foresight and vision are, tremendous, human-qualities, and, witnessing the advancement and evolution of mankind and society can, sometimes, be 'mind-blowing' in it's result. The thing is, though, not all that comes from it is good, or, positive, and, this, duly-noted, in, several, ways, to this point in time. One of our, world's greatest-minds, when asked, years ago, to remark on the Atom-Bomb, spoke these words:
“I fear the day technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”
