FAA: South Kingstown Emergency Plane Landing Under Investigation
A pilot walked away uninjured after making an emergency landing on Shannon Road in Snug Harbor.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Federal Aviation Administration said it's investigating an emergency plane landing in a South Kingstown neighborhood on Saturday. The pilot of the small plane made a sudden landing in a yard on Shannon Road. The pilot and those aboard were not hurt. No one on the ground was hurt.
FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen on Monday said the pilot of the Piper PA-25 banner tow aircraft was headed to Westerly State Airport around 5 p.m. on Saturday. That's when something went wrong and the pilot decided to attempt an emergency landing.
South Kingstown Police received a call of a low-flying plane just before the landing, and officers watched the pilot circle the area several times before landing in Snug Harbor. The plane was damaged from the landing was taken out of service.

Bergen said the cause of the emergency landing was still under investigation by the FAA. She could not confirm if thunderstorms in the area at the time were a factor.
