SCITUATE, R.I. -- Rhode Island State Police announced Wednesday that a former boy scout leader faces nine additional charges of sexual assault. James Glawson, 74, of Exeter now faces a total of 11 charges.

Manni is charged with nine counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of possession of child pornography.

Glawson was arrested on February 14 and charged with three counts of first-degree and one count of second degree sexual assault relating to the reported assault of a disabled 18-year-old man. In the interim, Col. Manni said several additional victims have come forward.

According to Manni, the abuse took place during the 1980s, when Glawson was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. He remained a part of the organization until 2018. He also served within the Catholic church, serving as an assistant chaplain and Eucharistic minister at the St. Bosco chapel at the Yawgoog Boy Scout summer camp in Hopkinton from 2012 to 2018. Glawson is also affiliated with two other Rhode Island churches, police say, the Immaculate Conception church in Westerly and St. Bernard church in North Kingstown.

Police say both the Boy Scouts of American and the Diocese of Providence have been cooperating with the investigation.

"This is an active, ongoing investigation, and there is still the possibility of additional victims and charges," Col. Manni said. "Anyone with information relating to the investigation is encouraged to contact our detectives at 401-764-5346."

Glawson was arraigned for the additional charges at a status hearing Wednesday morning and ordered to continue to be held without bail.

Peg Langhammer, the executive director of Day One, an organization that support victims of sexual abuse, said there are resources available to the victims.

"We are here for you, and you don't have to go through this alone," Langhammer said, adding that counseling and other services are available.
