After recently, reading an article about the 'dangers' of some prescription anti-depressant drugs, and, learning how they can, frequently, cause worsening of depression, creating feelings, so severe, as to cause suicide or, even, homicidal tendencies, to the user, I wrote this: We live in a society whereby 'meds' are prescribed for 'whatever ails ya'; and, as we are, well, aware, many of these prescribed drugs come with a myriad of side-effects, which can, sometimes, be more harmful than the symptoms they are taken to treat. I've experienced my own, personal, 'horror-show', with respect to anti-depressant drugs; one, in particular, which exacerbated my 'depression' to the point of my coming close to taking my own life, several years ago. When this occurred, to me, thankfully, I had the presence of mind to understand, somehow, that my medication was the culprit. From that long, ago, day, til now, I have been able, through the 'Grace of God', to manage my 'issues' in ways which DO NOT include prescriptive medication. Believe me, I am not bashing anyone who is currently on 'something' to assist him or her in feeling better. I, only, encourage all people, who take prescription drugs, for depression and/or anxiety, or, otherwise, to be aware of what the potential ramifications of taking these medications can, frequently, be. The real 'Drug-Lords' in this world, today, are the Big Pharmaceutical Companies, and, this ain't no lie! They, fairly well, run this country...and, they want us sick; for, if we are not, they lose, and they are not in business to lose. It is up to all individuals to be pro-active of and for themselves. There is a place for prescription medication, but, it is NOT a magic-bullet, and, isn't always the answer. There are alternative-treatments available; although, often at a higher cost, and, this fact, alone, can cause one to jump on the pharmaceutical-band-wagon. 'Once upon a time', I learned an interesting fact, from a friend who had gone 'abroad' to attend school in London. She told me that, while there, she discovered that it is against the law, in England, (and, in most European countries, no doubt!) for prescribed medicine to be touted on the 'air-waves', as a commodity, in the way that they are 'hyped', here, in the good ol' U.S. of A. In our United States, clever advertisers are hired to promote DRUGS in the same way one would attempt to sell a consumer a car, insurance, or, any other item one 'needs'; with these commercials causing folks to run to their docs, requesting certain, specific, drugs, by name, simply, because they 'might' have a symptom. In my opinion, this is shameful behavior, on behalf of all involved, being performed for, no other reason than, making a profit. We MUST be our own advocates and best-friends, for, often, it seems, the 'powers that be', could care less about us, our health, or, general well-being. For me, well...I wish to be more than, simply, a percentage of someone's 'profit-margin'. Just Sayin'...
