When life seems to be kicking you in the rear, these are the times it is most, important, to recognize the good 'stuff'; even when those things may seem, almost, insignificant, or, even, frivolous. In keeping with the sentiment of a song, from days gone by, it's important to 'accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative'. I'm dating myself, here, because I DO, indeed, remember this song; but, here goes..."Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" is a popular song. The music was written by Harold Arlen and the lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and it was published in 1944. It is sung in the style of a sermon, and explains that accentuating the positive is key to happiness. In describing his inspiration for the lyric, Mercer told the Pop Chronicles radio documentary "I went to hear Father Divine and he had a sermon and his subject was 'you got to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.' And I said 'Wow, that's a colorful phrase! When we can keep ourselves in a positive frame-of-mind, by concentrating on all of the wonderful, and, miraculous things that life is filled with, rather than to dwell on the less than optimal events which will, unquestioningly, occur, we can help ourselves to get through those negative, sad, and, even tragic, happenings, which we face, from time to time. It, truly, is all about making lemonade from life's lemons, or, finding the 'silver-lining' in the grey-clouds; a 'philosophy' that, if practiced with regularity, can, will, and DOES, aid one in coping with life's toughest challenges. Let's face facts, here. We all have enough negativity to deal with, in our lives, and, if we chose to do such, we could me unhappy, discontent, or, even miserable, if we elected to be. But...WHY on 'God's green earth' would one opt for this state of being? It's all up to us, as to how we wish to live our lives, with respect to our mental state of well-being. It is a choice each of us has, a decision we each, must make, and, nobody or nothing else has control of this. Some like to express that they are feeling blue, or, wallowing in self-pity, because 'someone else made them unhappy'. Guess what...others cannot do that, unless, we give them our consent to do so, plain and simple. So, as you go on, throughout your day(s)...throughout your life...think about the wondrous, amazing things that are going on, VS. the 'other stuff' that 'ain't so grand'.
