Narragansett Police Install Signs At Beaches About Marijuana Policy

NARRAGANSETT, RI — New signs were installed at Narragansett town beaches ad parks reminding the public about the town's marijuana bylaws, Police Chief Sean Corrigan said Monday.

The signs inform visitors that marijuana consumption is not permitted in public in Narragansett, per town ordinance. Police said the signs were installed on Saturday.

The Narragansett Police Department received the signs free from community partner South County Prevention Coalition.

"We are grateful to our partners at the South County Prevention Coalition for providing these signs for Narragansett's beaches and parks," Corrigan said. "These are popular locations during the summer months, and we are hopeful that the signs will offer an important reminder for our community that the ordinance is strictly enforced."

The South County Prevention Coalition, part of the Rhode Island Regional Coalitions, is a group working to provide substance misuse prevention strategies, mental health resources, and advocate for policies that support healthy and safe communities.

The coalition provides multiple resources and tools to help promote healthy lifestyles and substance misuse prevention among kids and teens, including guides like the "PAWSitive Playbook" and "Teen World," and programs like Hidden In Plain Sight and Project Sticker Shock.
