Nobody Injured in Boat Fire that Sent Plume Across Bay

The fire heavily damaged a sport fishing boat but firefighters were able to douse the flames and prevent it from sinking.

Firefighters battled a boat fire in Narragansett Bay on Sunday.

Several people, including children, managed to get off the boat safely.

The boat was heavily damaged and sent a thick plume of smoke into the air that could be seen from up and down both sides of the West Passage of Narragansett Bay on Sunday afternoon.

North Kingstown’s Marine 1 responded along with other marine assets in the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force across Rhode Island. Crews were able to get the fire under control within minutes upon arrival.

The boat, a 46-foot sport fishing boat, caught fire just north of the Jamestown Bridge. Though it was severely damaged, it did not sink and was towed back to shore.

The fire is under investigation.
