Wow...here we are, once, AGAIN, staring ANOTHER Labor Day Weekend in the face...AMAZING! Recently, I was chatting with someone, who, as we were discussing the nature of time's elusiveness, told me that, while growing up, his Dad had a funny saying, which went like this, 'The day after Memorial Day, is Labor Day.'. Naturally, as a child, this gentleman never, quite, understood what his father was implying, as he knew, pragmatically, this not to be true; however, as a grown man, caught up in the pace of day to day life, recognizing the swiftness of time 'flying past', he, definitely, 'gets' it. Time is a dimension in which events can be ordered from the past through the present into the future, and also the measure of durations of events and the intervals between them. Yet, if we were not relegated to 'live by the clock, and, calendar', would this matter, a lick? For, truly, there is no such thing as time...only clocks, and, other, various ways of measuring 'it'. Regardless, as to whether or not we are, constantly, made aware of time, and, it's passage, the nature of things in life change. A newborn babe would still develop into a grown-person, and, if allowed, become, what we term 'aged', and, alas, pass away. This will occur whether or not we mark birthdays, or, other life events, through, the measurement of time. Another interesting aspect of time being kept, is that, often, many of us feel to be 'slaves to time...to the clock'; always, scheduling, and, running about, making sure, 'not to be late', for the next appointment or errand. Although, difficult, try to imagine an existence whereby this was not our reality; think of the freedom this would permit. I have been given a slight taste of living life in this luxury; as, due to my personal, challenges, I no longer work, outside my home, and, I no longer have the responsibility of children and all the various, timetable-based, planned, schedule of events, that are associated with that, parental-duty. Truth be told, unless I do have an appointment to keep, I barely, ever, look at a clock. It's wonderful! Of course, I understand why time is kept, especially in these modern times, as it is a critical piece in the successful, functioning of our modern, global-society; harnessing time, so to speak, has been of interest to mankind, since ancient civilizations began charting the skies, and, developing calendars, through lunar-cycling. Just the same, the sun rises and sets, each day; not to the dictate of a time-piece, but, because it does; just as every other of nature's phenomenon will occur and exist, all without the, formal, constructs of any instrument designed to measure, register, or, record time. So...I have a suggestion. If you have the opportunity to do so, try living a day without the structure of kept-time; cover your wall-clock(s), ignore, to the best of your ability, any and all manner of reminder of the time. Rely on your senses to guide you through the day. Eat, when your hungry, not according to the clock. Do as you wish, whenever, throughout the course of the day. Allow for yourself to dictate, rather than a clock or a calendar. It's very, empowering; and, believe me, whatever you do will be 'right on time!' Just Sayin'...
