Public Areas Closed, Transfer Station Changed: Coronavirus In SK

Several more public areas have been closed in South Kingstown to prevent gatherings of five people or more.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — To address the ever-changing coronavirus outbreak in Rhode Island, the town of South Kingstown has made more changes to municipal facilities. Parks and public recreation facilities have been closed, while policies have been changed at the regional transfer station.

Starting Saturday, the Rose Hill regional transfer station will no longer accept bulky items or bulky yard waste. The new policy will be in effect until further notice. The weight scale house will remain open for residential trash and yard waste tags, commercial contractors and commercial trash haulers.

The town also made the decision to close the following recreation facilities, effective immediately.

All playgrounds were already closed earlier this month, while field use permits are no longer valid. All sports teams and clubs are banned from using fields, and no gatherings of five people or more are permitted.

Other town parks remain open at this time, though residents are again reminded to use proper social distancing etiquette: avoiding congregating in groups and maintaining approximately six feet of distance between themselves and others. If residents do not follow these guidelines, the remaining parks will be closed, the town said in a statement.
