Red Sox Charity To Award $10k To Rhode Island Nonprofit

You can vote for one of five Rhode Island organizations online. The winner will win a $10,000 award.

The Red Sox foundation is offering one Rhode Island non-profit organization $10,000 with its Impact Award. The team's charitable arm will award a grant to one organization in Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont. You can vote for one of the five Rhode Island organizations online until July 28.

The Red Sox Foundation said this year's Impact Awards are intended to honor organizations "that have demonstrated an impact on improving health and wellness outcomes in their community." The first place winner in each state will receive $10,000, with $3,000 going to the runner-up and $2,000 for third place. Rhode Island's nominees are Be The Change/Project Hand Up, Good Neighbors, Inc., Sail To Prevail, Inc., St. Mary's Home For Children and The WARM Center.

Be The Change/Project Hand Up is a West Warwick-based organization that helps Rhode Islanders stretch their food budgets. The organization is designed for everyone, not just the impoverished or homeless, to be able to afford groceries. Anyone is welcome to come and shop for groceries and home items for a suggested donation.

The Good Neighbors Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen and Day Shelter in East Providence provides food, shelter, laundry services and other amenities to those in need. Two meals are served each day and the day shelter provides a place to safely relax, access the internet, receive clean clothing, access laundry services and more.

Sail To Prevail is the country's first sailing organization for people with disabilities. Now with two additional locations in Massachusetts, Newport-based organization allows more than 1,000 children and adults to experience sailing each summer using 20 specially adapted sailboats.

Founded in 1877, St. Mary's Home For Children is a secular, non-profit organization that helps children who are the victims of abuse or psychiatric disorders. The organization offers both in-patient and out-patient services as well as an on-campus school in North Providence.

Rhode Island's final nominee is the WARM Shelter in Westerly, which provides emergency shelter, free meals, clothing, summer lunches, services to help find housing and more.
