Schartner Farms Will Rebuild
"We wanted to take a minute and thank all of our patrons, friends, family, and community for your support in this difficult time."

Spring is coming up and that means Schartner Farms is busy planting for the spring despite a fire that destroyed their main farm stand building on Thursday morning.
The Rhode Island landmark and family institution for so many will rebuild, just as one would expect from a hardy New England family farm.
And its owners said they wanted to thank everyone for all the well wishes and support following the devastating blaze.

“We wanted to take a minute and thank all of our patrons, friends, family, and community for your support in this difficult time,” a post on the Schartner Farms Facebook page stated. “While we have no definite timeline just yet, were are going to continue planting for the spring, as we will definitely rebuild and reopen. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more details. Again, we are truly touched by the kind words and well wishes that are being sent our way.”
In response, people offered whatever they could, from construction materials and greenhouses to promises that they’ll be back to shop for pies, pumpkins, flowers, trees, gifts and everything else sold in the farmstand building.

The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. and firefighters were hampered by smokey conditions in addition to the cold weather and a snowstorm overhead.
North Kingstown Fire Chief Fenwick Gardiner said once the fire breached the roof, access became difficult “so aerial trucks became the equipment of choice,” according to the Providence Journal.
The fire was fully knocked down by 9 a.m.
