We all have 'those nights', once in awhile; the 'toss and turn', sleepless hours, which 'tick away', agonizing moment by moment, while we, lay abed, frustrated, at our inability to fall asleep and slumber. Often, our sleeplessness is the result of a 'busy-brain', and, having something weighing, heavily, on our mind. There is some science behind attempting to get a good night's sleep, with the focus on keeping one's boudoir 'clean' and void of distraction, from the potential for a great night's rest, as in doing NOTHING but sleeping in one's bed. This, practice, forgoes reading, television-viewing, and, any, 'extra-curricular'-activity, if you follow my drift? Although, quite frankly, I've, always, found the latter to help me relax and sleep better. :-) Any way, when our 'heads' are agog with information, or, otherwise, overstimulated, we, very well, may find ourselves struggling for sleep; And, as we know, good-health is reliant upon restorative-sleep. When one finds him or herself in this, fairly, common, predicament, with sleep, seeming as evasive as that 'elusive butterfly of love', this is a good indicator that, perhaps, one is taking to bed, too much of his or her 'daytime', unable to 'shut-off' the thoughts and worry of the wakeful-world. This is a great reason to flirt with the idea of meditation, if in fact, one hasn't, already. For, when one meditates, one is exercising the ability to 'turn-down the dial' to one's over-active, and, over-stimulated, 'PC'...the brain. For, as we know, we live in a high-tech world, filled with stimulation, as well as the fact that we have our, own, personal, life-issues, which, can rouse, to a heightened action and distraction, our mind's lack of 'mindfulness'. I, typically, meditate, daily; Yet, of late, I've, sorta, 'fallen off the horse', so to speak, and...it shows! My sleep patterns have been impacted by my inability to 'stay on track' with this, terrific, holistic, modality of care. There's no, one, specific, reason, as to why I'm 'slacking', I, just, get this way, on occasion. However, now, that my nights have become a bit, 'fitful', I know that I must get 'back on track'. There are a myriad of ways in which to meditate. Personally, I love listening to guided-meditations; especially, those which are given by Deepak Chopra, as his voice is soothing, and, assists me in relaxing. Many meditative practices prevail. One can find just about ANYTHING on the WWW, as we know, and, there is no lack of information, regarding meditation. So, if you're finding yourself in the predicament, of suffering sleepless nights, 'do yourself a solid', and, look into a bit of meditation. Believe me...it couldn't hurt! Ahhh...I feel better, already! Just Sayin'...
