Having just read about the death of 46 year old, Philip Seymour Hoffman, due to an, accidental, overdose, of heroin, I am left feeling, quite, saddened, as this is, truly, another case of a life, seeming fulfilled, to those of us who knew him only through his successes, but, was, indeed not; at least, not enough for Mr. Hoffman to find the inner-strength and wherewithal to kick his nasty- habit. His major-stardom, nor, his three children kept him from the doldrums, that, apparently, ran so deep as to cause his need for a greatly, altered, state-of-mind. This is, certainly, tragic, but, also, a major, 'sign of the times'. Naturally, I do not know where Mr. Hoffman's belief-system lay, nor, whether or not he had any, vested-interest in a Higher-Power. However, I DO know, without a doubt, that believing in something bigger than one's-self, and, having faith, in the power of that belief, can give one the strength to overcome great obstacles. One would assume that P.S.H. 'had the world by the gonads; yet, it is evident that he was painfully, unhappy. Those, who knew him best, knew this about him. However, unless a party is able and willing to turn his of her life around, on his or her own, there is not much others can do but to stand by and witness, such, self-destruction. And, this is where God comes into play. For, he understands a soul's-suffering, and, is here for ALL who depend and rely on Him for such, support. This is my belief. Also, as part of the faith that I own, is the acceptance, too, that all things happen as they are intended. As sad as this can be, at times, especially, when a loss, as this, results, I know this to be true. This basis of belief acts a 'consolation', of sorts, and, allows me to make a bit more sense of tragic-occurrence. Whatever one's 'take' on this situation, and the myriad of others, like it, it is, INDEED, a sad-story, regardless. I pray for Mr. Hoffman's loved ones, as they are the ones who are suffering. Mr. Hoffman, himself, is in a far, better, place, experiencing a 'reality' so wondrous, that he would never wish to alter it. May he Rest In Peace.
