We sure do live in a 'strange' world! Just recently, I've been exposed to two, news- stories, each, which, describe horrible, and reckless behavior(s), exhibited by 'bored' teens. One such story, involves a group of under-aged youth, all of whom, under 18, who found pleasure in destroying the home of a family, who were away, vacationing. This raucous, group, trashed the joint, while enjoying themselves a little partying. The other news-report cited three, teens, responsible for killing a man, in cold, blood, for no other reason than 'having nothing else better to do'. Evidently, ennui is not all that these young, criminally-minded, hooligans are suffering from. What is this upsurge of heinous crime and activity among the young? What is the impetus behind such activity; especially when it can include murder? We live in a world, filled with folk, who are desensitized to much; sex...violence...hatred, who, additionally, seem separate of any, moral, code. With these facts being evident, I can understand how, and, why, these crimes are committed. If a person is not raised with any, true, belief system, which includes self-love, and, regard, first and foremost, he or she will, typically, fail, in having love and respect for any other living-being. Add to this, the messages that are sent to our youth, by way of entertainment; movies, video-games, and, the pervasive, persuasive, message that anything goes. Our society, as a whole, has been lulled into a cultural-coma, made numb to much that, ideally, ought be regarded.; human-life, for example. Of course, we all have choices, and, as adults, most, times, we're more well-equipped to opt for more optimal selections. However, children, especially, those who are not, so, well-guided, are not capable of making good choices for themselves. When left to their own devices; permitted to participate in pleasures, well beyond their, limited, understanding of certain of life's presentations, they can...and DO, become lost. I am no expert, yet, it seems, fairly, clear to me that our society is 'goin' to hell in a handbag', as it were, with our greatest, resource, our children, suffering the most. Once upon a time, we lived in a world whereby people believed that it 'took a village to raise a child'; and, it seemed everyone was concerned with the well-being of future-adults. Today, we're all left to fend for ourselves, to try making the best sense out of nonsensical, new, social- norms and mores; with parents, coming up against challenges unlike any other generation has, ever, had to face. All I can do is hope...wish well to every, new, and expecting parent...and, pray, that, a better day is coming. It's time for us, as a culture, to awaken from our slumber. Sleeping 8 hours a day is good for a body; 24 hours a day...not, so, much! Just Sayin...
