Dangerous Narragansett Water Rescue: Woman Swept Off Rocks Near The Coast Guard House
A rescue swimmer made it to a woman swept off the rocks. Her condition is not yet known. She was conscious but suffering from hypothermia.

NARRAGANSETT, RI-— A woman was swept off the rocks near the Coast Guard House in Narragansett on Wednesday night. The incident happened around 7:21 p.m. Narragansett police responded, but the officers only hear the woman. They could not see her through the dense fog, according to the Coast Guard's Petty Ofc. Nicole Groll. The police threw her a life jacket and called for help from Station Castle Hill in Newport. The Coast Guard and the Narragansett Bay Task Force responded with boats. A rescue swimmer from the Narragansett Bay Task Force made it to the 39-year-old woman and swam back with her. Witnesses said it took about 45 minutes for the swimmer to reach the woman, due to dense fog. Then the Coast Guard's rescue boat picked them both up and took them to Newport where medics were waiting.
The woman was conscious, but she was suffering from hypothermia, Ofc. Groll said.
The National Weather Service has continued the High Surf Advisory through Friday.
