Woman who Died after Falling in Fire Pit is Identified

Police said the 63-year-old woman may have fallen into the pit after suffering a medical emergency.

South Kingstown police have identified the 63-year-old woman who died Sunday after she fell into a fire pit in her yard as Carol Reed of Glen Rock Road.

Police on Monday said they are still investigating the incident and Reed might have suffered a medical emergency before she fell into the pit, according to a news release.

Police said Reed was burning leaves and brush before she fell into the fire pit.

Reed was pulled from the fire pit by her son, according to reports, and attempts by family members and responding EMTS to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

The official cause of death has not been released.
