Children 'Make a Splash' One Last Time

The Newport Public Library celebrated the end of its Children Summer Reading Program, "Make a Splash," on Thursday with a special Outdoor Fair for children and their elders.

The kids gathered with parents and grandparents to receive certificates and a gift for their completion of the program, which culminated after eight weeks of reading. They also each received a book of their choosing.

Several special activities were lined up to celebrate. The morning started with a performance by "Jump," a group of young ladies who tell stories through choreographed dance. During their show, they took children to a frog pond, a subway filled with commuters, the life of a young girl and her cell phone, and more.

The program then moved out to the park, where the children played in a lighthouse, made sand bottle pictures and talked with pirates. Other special programs also ensued.
