NEWPORT, RI — Newport residents can now more easily access city information and forms since the relaunch of the city's official website on Monday. According to city officials, the new site was designed with residents in mind, bringing together city communications with official social media accounts and an improved search function. The first phase launched Monday, with more features coming in the future.

"What you see here is just the beginning," City Manager Joseph Nicholson, Jr said. "Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be refining the new design and adding features based on feedback from this initial launch."

New features in the redesigned website include a new homepage designed to appeal to residents, businesses and visitors, better mobile compatibility, improved search functions, and dedicated areas for some of the city's most popular tourist attractions such as the Cliff Walk, Recreation Department, Easton's Beach and more.

"As we continue to improve the site, we’ll be looking forward to introducing a new dedicated Employee Portal, a more robust integrated Newsletter, and new web-based tools designed to help streamline the customer service experience," Nicholson continued. "What we’ve built will essentially act as a digital front door for our residents, business owners, and visitors. From the City’s standpoint, I view the new site as an important communications tool, and our intention is to work to continuously improve its content, functionality, and usability. This is very much a living project and one that we certainly hope makes our government more accessible and easier to navigate."

The year-long redesign was spearheaded by FuseIdeas, a Winchester, Massachusetts-based company that also built the website for the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
