Coalition for Action to Generate Energy Talks
Strategies for renewable energy development will be among the topics discussed.

The seeds for a "Coalition of Action" will be planted Wednesday night when the Aquidneck Island Energy Alliance comes together to address energy conservation and sustainable energy practices across Aquidneck Island.
The group, under the umbrella of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission (AIPC), meets tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Middletown Town Hall Council Chambers.
Among its top goals is the creation of a "coalition for action" among local government officials, non-profit leaders, business owners and community members to address strategies for renewable energy development, along with community education and outreach, according to the Alliance's announcement.Â

The Alliance is funded in part through donations from the Van Beuren Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic organization that seeks to protect and preserve "Newport County's unique quality of place," and improve the quality of life for its residents, as well as the Prince Charitable Trusts, which provides funds to support programs that "improve the quality of life for residents of the city of Newport and Aquidneck Island," according to each group's website.
Wednesday's meeting is expected to generate discussions on energy efficiency and weatherization strategies for residential, business and municipal buildings, as well as plans and strategies for renewable energy development, acording to the Alliance release. Community outreach and education strategies will also be addressed, including energy awareness for school age children.
