Editor's Notebook: Week in Review

Busy, but fun, past week in Newport. For Patch it was a particularly special one, as we got out to give back in the community in honor of our 100th site launch. Enough about us, though. Lots happened in the city, and we tried to give you a glimpse into it all. Here's a look back, in case you missed something.

On Monday, we talked to Superintendent John Ambrogi about a $32.9 million federal education bill headed for Rhode Island. We also reported on a Newport County man who contracted EEE; told you about a boat that was stolen out of Newport and set on fire in Portsmouth; gave you a look back at the Newport Antiques Show; and gave a rundown of the court tennis Pell Cup. We also reported on a large fight involving 20 women downtown, and other police activity from the weekend.

On Tuesday, we shared the good news about Patch's 100th site launch; reported from game one of the Newport Men's Softball league championships; shared the good news about Sig's Place re-opening in Middletown; and gave you Monday's police reports.

On Wednesday, we told you about a new video promo intended to attract more filmmakers to Newport; updated you that the stolen boat was intentionally set on fire; gave you coverage of game two of the softball league champs; and shared Tuesday's police reports. Patch columnist and Newport resident Jessica Walsh also challenged you to eat more local food.

On Thursday, we shared a feature about tourists going digital while in town; gave you a local look into that child porn raid in RI; told you what you need to know about the DMV's new changes; let you know about Friday's bonfire at Easton's; reported Wednesday's police reports; and shared the good news about Cappy's win of the softball league championships.

On Friday, we challenged you to turn old outfits into new art for the "Wet Paint" party; shared photos from the Newport library summer reading Outdoor Fair; reported on the Alliance for a Livable Newport's forum on noise; and told you about a teen who was arrested after allegedly shooting a BB gun toward construction workers.
