
In 2018, just walking out your front door can seem to be flirting with danger. The news is full of headlines of tragedy, from natural to manmade. But in Rhode Island, at least, you can sleep a little bit easier.
WalletHub released a report Tuesday ranking Rhode Island as the seventh-safest state in America. The ranking, which takes into account 48 metrics across five dimensions, has the Ocean State up top in part because it placed so high in road safety.
Rhode Island ranked highly in fewest fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel (second.) It also did well in lowest bullying incidence rate (third) and fewest fatal occupational injuries per worker (second.)

WalletHub, which released the study during National Safety Month, use the following dimensions: personal and resident safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness. Rhode Island ranked in the top 11 for every category but financial safety and workplace safety.

Vermont was deemed the safest state in the country, with all six New England states in the top 10. Mississippi ranked last.
