Layers Rule for September Polo Series

With only three weeks left in the 2010 International Polo Series, J. Mclaughlin has just the right options for you to dress right for the event and through the fall.

While many of our favorite summer activities disappear when Labor Day arrives, there is one that still has a few weeks to go. The popular Newport International Polo Series at Glen Farm take place on Saturdays at 4 p.m. throughout September and are always a nice, relaxing way to spend a weekend afternoon.

Of course, going to polo and looking good seem to go hand in hand. For the perfect outfit, we headed over to J. McLaughlin on Bellevue Avenue. Many of their clothing options have an equestrian flair, while still being great everyday items. We chose pieces that could easily be layered during this season of wide-ranging temperatures.

Nothing says equestrian more than a pair of jodphurs, but the Bridget Viscose Poly Jodphur Pants in Oyster ($155) are comfortable and chic for any fall day. Pair them with the Lowell Long-sleeve Pleat Front Blouse ($168) and the Clarabelle Long-sleeve Cardigan in Emerald ($98), and accessorize with the very appropriate Horse Bit Sursingle Belt ($85) and the Amalfi Heraldic Silk Print Scarf ($115).

J. McLaughlin Store Manager Amy Louden said the following of this outfit: "It's an equestrian-inspired look that works really well at the polo field and after, whether it's to the office or out."

The September matches of the Newport International Polo Series will support the intercollegiate polo clubs in the Northeast, including Yale, Brown, Vassar, U-Conn, Harvard, URI and others. Collegiate polo is on the rise with more than 41 teams now playing in United States Polo Association organized leagues and tournaments, according to the Glen Farm website.
