The 2010 festival commences with a special performance by Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers.

The folk is finally here.

George Wein's 51st edition of the Newport Folk Festival commenced Friday night with its special opening night tradition: performances at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Music rafted through the air up and down Bellevue Avenue as Sarah Jarosz, Tim O'Brien and the much-anticipated Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers took to the stage for an evening of bluegrass and banjo.

The music continues Saturday and Sunday, with a lineup that's full of acts too good to be missed.

Highlights for Saturday include John Prine, Andrew Bird, Calexico, Brandi Carlile, Blitzen Trapper, The Low Anthem and more. Jarosz will also make her second appearance at the festival, starting the day off with an 11:40 a.m. performance.

The gates of Fort Adams State Park open at 10 a.m. today, with the music kicking off at 11:30.
