Local Youth Have a Ball at Tennis Hall of Fame
The 11 children got a chance to hit balls around on the indoor courts.
Eleven local youth got a special opportunity Monday afternoon to play tennis with the pros.
Children from the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County visited the International Tennis Hall of Fame as one of their final camp activities before heading back to school next week. The youth, from the club's Camp Grosvenor, spent about half an hour playing a series of tennis-related games on the indoor courts. The children were originally scheduled to play on the Hall of Fame's esteemed grass courts, but rainy weather put that on hold. Following the clinic, the children took a tour of the Hall of Fame Museum and participated in a scavenger hunt.
The clinic was sponsored by Cox Communications, which has a national partnership with Boys & Girls Club and is offering this program as a local activation. Cox Charities has given approximately $1.2 million this year toward regional efforts like this one.
