NEWPORT, RI - City officials are looking for feedback from the public nearly two months after a week-long gas outage ground the city to a halt. The survey is meant to gauge the impacts the outage had on Newport and Middletown residents and help officials plan the best steps moving forward. It can be accessed through the city's website.

City Manager Joseph Nicholson said in a release that the survey is part of an after-action analysis being completed by city officials to gauge the effectiveness of the response to the outage.

“The community’s response to the gas outage was truly remarkable but I think it’s vital that we
continue to learn from this experience,” Nicholson said. “I would encourage anyone that was affected by the outage to go online and fill out a survey. The more that we understand about this last event, the better we can prepare for the next time.”

The survey starts with questions that measure individual impact, including whether gas service was lost, and if so, for how long, if there was damage to your home or business and more. It then asks what was the best source for information throughout the outage, such as TV news, local media, social media and others, as well as asking how well the city and National Grid handled the crisis.

Anyone affected by the outage is encouraged to share their thoughts. The survey can be accessed online here.
