Newport Police Investigating Molotov Cocktail Thrown at Car
No suspects have been identified at this time.
Newport Police are investigating a report that someone left a molotov cocktail on or near a car on Brenton Road sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday.
According to the police report, a woman told police she parked her car in front of a house on the 40 block of Brenton Road around 5 p.m. Wednesday, and when she came out at 9 a.m., she discovered the device had been detonated near her vehicle.
Sgt. John Barker of NPD told Patch that it appeared that the device was thrown at the back end of the vehicle, then bounced off and ignited in the driveway. The only damage to the vehicle was a small dent where the device struck.

The Newport fire marshal and state fire marshal's office were notified about the explosion, but declined to take jurisdiction over the investigation, so Newport Police are managing it.
The department's criminal investigative division is currently handling the matter. Police have no suspects at this time.
