Woman Arrested After Allegedly Going After Boyfriend with Knife

Danielle Leigh Unger, 23, of 90 Girard Avenue Apt. 198 in Newport, was arrested around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday on a domestic assault charge.

Police were dispatched to the scene around 9:35 p.m., where they say they found Unger standing in the bedroom holding a very large knife, while her boyfriend was in the corner, trembling. A 3-year-old toddler was in the hallway.

The boyfriend told police that the two had gotten into a verbal argument, which escalated to the point where Unger went for the knife and returned to begin cutting and poking him with it. The 25-year-old man suffered a laceration and several puncture wounds, but denied treatment.

Unger told officers that the argument had escalated after her boyfriend started assaulting her, and that she went after him for all the times he'd beaten her.

Officers determined based on the incident that there was probable cause to arrest Unger for felony assault. The knife was reportedly 7.75 inches.

Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Girlfriend

Charles Montalvo Cruz, 32, of 6o Girard Avenue Apt. 414, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism.

Officers responded to a report of arguing inside an apartment, and upon arriving found a woman, with her 4-year-old son, in a car out front crying. The woman told police that she'd gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, Cruz, after asking him to help with the children, leading to a physical argument in which he assaulted her, then pulled the hand railing off the wall of the stairway.

Officers located Cruz in the parking lot of RK Townecenter with his two children, ages 7 and 9. He was arrested and taken to the station for booking. The children were left in the custody of their grandmother.

Public Urination Citation

Robert Edwards Symonds, 63, of 102 Park Holm, was arrested around 3:35 p.m. Tuesday for obstructing the sidewalk and urinating in public.

Police patrolling the area on Broadway near the post office were dealing with two unwanted individuals who were drinking and playing cards on the wall in front, when they found Symonds sleeping behind the wall. An officer attempted to wake him up, but Symonds refused to do so. He eventually got up and lingered on the sidewalk yelling obscenities, reportedly blocking passerby. According to the report, he then put one hand on the bus stop and began urinating in plain view, causing pedestrians to have to cross the road. Police then handcuffed him and brought him to the station for booking.
