Newport Police Log: Four Women Arrested After Large Fight

The following reports detail the arrests made by the Newport Police Department from Friday, August 13, through the early morning hours of Monday, August 16. Descriptions of all events are based solely on police officer reports provided to Patch.

Four Massachusetts Women Arrested After Large Fight

Newport Police arrested four Massachusetts women Saturday after a large fight near Thames and Green streets.

According to the report, police were traveling north on Thames Street around 12:32 a.m. when they observed approximately 20 women engaged in a physical fight, punching, kicking and pulling one another's hair.

Officers engaged their police cruiser horn, displayed a spotlight on the group, and announced themselves to the women several times, but the fight continued as several women in the middle threw punches at the others. After failing to separate the women, an officer issued his cap stun spray directly into the face and eyes of the aggressors. Still, a number of girls continued to fight, so the officer deployed several more bursts until police were able to subdue four combatants.

Caitlin Carroll Lynch, 28, of Braintree, MA, Sheila Marie Labillois, 28, of Abington, MA, Meredith Elaine Mann, 28, of Braintree, MA, and Sherry Ann Dellascio, 26, of Dorchester, MA, were all arrested on disorderly conduct charges.

Officers say Lynch had been engaged in a fist fight, and that they detained her as she attempted to flee the scene. Labillois was taken into custody after police had to use an arm bar to separate her from a woman who she had by her hair. Mann was reportedly subdued with cap stun bursts to the eyes and face after she had been kicking and pulling another girl by the hair. Dellascio was detained after several bursts of the cap stun. She allegedly was also engaged in a fist fight with another woman.

Officers say a number of the women fled the scene, which made it impossible for them to take them all into custody.

Man Arrested After Trying to Push Pedicab with Truck

Brian J. Burns, 34, of 33 Gould Street in Newport, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on charges of felony assault and hitting an occupied vehicle.

According to the police report, Burns hit the back of an occupied pedicab with his truck with the intention of making it go faster. Police were notified of the incident by another pedicab driver. Burns allegedly tailgated the pedicab, which held two people plus the operator, near Pelham and Thames streets. When it didn't speed up, Burns intentionally bumped the back of it, causing minor damage. Burns left the scene of the accident, but was later located by police.

Connecticut Men Charged with Possession of Pot, Mushrooms

Charles John Bradley, 26, and Anthony Joseph Borelli, 29, both of Orange, CT, were arrested around 8:30 p.m. Friday on charges of possessing marijuana, which was discovered after a motor vehicle stop. Bradley was also charged with driving in possession of controlled substances, and Borelli was also charged with possession of mushrooms.

Disorderly Conduct, Vandalism Charges

• Alexsandro Ortiz Cruz, 31, of 23 Shimoda Way in Newport, was arrested around 1:35 a.m. Saturday on charges of disorderly conduct and a noise violation.

• Yomi S. Richardson, 35, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of vandalism on Thames Street.

• Peter A. Maloney, 23, of 112 Evans Avenue in Tiverton, was arrested around 8:40 p.m. Sunday on charges of domestic disorderly conduct and a family court body attachment warrant related to failure to pay child support.

• Rosa A. Pleitez, 36, of 7 Clinton Avenue 2 in Newport, was arrested at her home around 11:30 p.m. Sunday for a domestic disorderly conduct charge.

• Jeffrey R. Veitenheimer, 26, of 2 Summer Street Apt. C in Newport, was arrested around 1:40 a.m. Monday on a domestic vandalism charge after he allegedly broke mirrors inside his girlfriend's apartment.

Assault Charges

• Andrew David Pine, 39, of 49 Reservoir Avenue in Middletown, was arrested around midnight Sunday on a domestic simple assault charge.
• Antone Edward Viveiros, 49, of 57 Merton Road in Newport, was arrested around 12:25 a.m. Sunday on a domestic simple assault charge.
  

• Jacqueline Rodriguez, 33, of 143 Third Street 1C in Newport, was arrested around 6:05 a.m. Sunday on charges of domestic simple assault and failure to relinquish a telephone.

• David A. Traynum Sr., 50, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Road 22D in Newport, was arrested at his home around 6:40 a.m. Sunday on a domestic simple assault charge.

Drinking Citations, Charges

• Abigail M. Little, 20, of 6 Lincoln Street in Newport, and John C. Erickson, 20, of 1 Lakeview Avenue in Newport, were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor around 6:50 p.m. Saturday near the Waterfront Parking lot, 9 Mary Street.
• Jennifer Dupont, 25, of Lincoln, Cara M. Diubaldi, 24, of Weston, CT, and Catherine Ficker, 30, of Minneapolis, MN, were cited around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for drinking in public near Thames and Hammond streets.
• Matthew Lacasse, 28, of Holyoke, MA, and Andrew Miller, 33, of Springfield, MA, were cited for drinking in public at Easton's Beach around 6:17 p.m. Sunday.
• Jacob Koppelman, 22, and Lewis Koppelman, 24, both of 7 Boxwood Court in Barrington, along with Chrysanthi D. Kazantzis, 21, of 10 River Oak in Barrington, were cited for drinking in public at Easton's Beach around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

DUI Charge

Christopher J. Drury, 39, of North Providence, was arrested around 2:05 a.m. Sunday on a driving under the influence charge.

Public Urination Citation

Patrick Hanley, 32, of Waltham, MA, was cited around 12:36 a.m. Sunday on a charge of urinating in public near Waites Wharf and Thames Street.

Warrant Charge

David W. Fullerton, 47, of 15 Meeting Street in Newport, was arrested around 1:47 p.m. Sunday for a Second District Court bench warrant for failure to appear. Fullerton turned himself in at the police station.
