Man Arrested After Allegedly Refusing to Stop for Police, Hitting Parked Car

Matthew Louis Bouthillier, 23, of 80 Rhode Island Avenue Apt. 1 in Newport, was arrested around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday on a reckless driving charge.

According to the report, an officer parked in the Newport Hospital parking lot around 12:44 a.m. said he heard a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Broadway, then screech its tires as it turned onto Rhode Island Avenue. The officer said the vehicle continued to accelerate as it traveled down Rhode Island Avenue and that despite an attempt to pull it over, the vehicle continued to get away.

The officer says he lost sight of the vehicle after it turned on Champlin Street, but that there he observed skid marks going toward a parked vehicle and slight damage to the rear quarter panel of the driver's side. The smell of freshly burnt brakes was also apparent, as was debris on the road.

A woman reportedly approached the officer and said she heard a vehicle squealing several times, then heard a bang and someone yell. While speaking to her, the officer says he heard a car door slam in the area of 80 Rhode Island Avenue. Upon responding to that location, the officer observed the vehicle there had fresh damage and the smell of burning brakes. Other officers arrived to assist and they banged on the front door, but the person who answered alleged that Bouthillier wasn't home. 

Around that time, Bouthillier came into the apartment. Officers asked if he knew why they were there, and he said he knew it was for not pulling over. He also said that he might have hit a vehicle at the corner of Prarie Avenue and Champlin Street.

Officers arrested Bouthillier for reckless driving and took him to the station for booking.

Newport Woman Arrested on Threats Charge

Kimberly AnneMarie Dizon, 36, of 38 Park Holm in Newport, was arrested around 5:25 p.m. Monday on charges of disorderly threats and a Second District Court bench warrant for failure to appear.

Officers were dispatched to Park Holm around 4:33 p.m. for a report that Dizon's aunt had been assaulted by her girlfriend. Police spoke to all parties and determined there was no probable cause or prominent attacker involved in that incident. During an interview on the scene, officers say Dizon began yelling at the girlfriend. They ordered her away, but say that approximately 30 minutes later, Dizon returned and started threatening a neighbor on the scene.

Officers arrested Dizon and brought her to the station for booking.
