Man Arrested Following Argument with Ex-Wife on Boat

Alan Cathers, 63, of Fall River, was arrested around 7 p.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism.

Police were dispatched around 1:16 p.m. for a report of a domestic argument on a boat. Officers met the habormaster at Perotti Park and accompanied him out toward Fort Adams. Police arrived at the boat and found a woman on board alone. She told police that she and her ex-husband had agreed to come to Newport on Monday and stay on his friend's boat, but later that night they got into an argument over financial issues, which she said turned physical. The woman said she awoke at 7 a.m. to find her ex-husband gone, but that he returned around 11 a.m. and the two began arguing again. The woman told police that Cathers had taken the dinghy to shore and left in his car. Police issued a 24-hour pickup for Cathers, and around 5:15 p.m., he called the police department and agreed to come into the station. Cathers arrived around 6:50 p.m., at which point officers handcuffed and booked him.

Man Arrested After Fight with Mother

Michael A. Adolfo, 23, of North Providence, was arrested around 9:46 p.m. Tuesday on a domestic simple assault charge.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Maple Avenue for a report that Adolfo and his mother were in a fight in her home. Upon arrival, officers found the two arguing in the kitchen and separated them. The mother told police that her son had called saying he didn't have money for food, so she offered to take him to the store. But when he arrived, she said he was intoxicated and that the two got into a verbal argument that turned physical. Adolfo told police his mother hit him as well, but she denied doing so. The mother's boyfriend was a witness to the incident and corroborated her story. Police arrested Adolfo for simple assault and brought him to the station for booking.

No-Contact Order Violation

Benjamin Thomas Langley III, 64, of 16 Rosa Terrace in Newport, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday on a violation of a no-contact order.

Police were dispatched to the home, where they spoke to Langley's estranged wife, who said they were in the process of going through a foreclosure on the house and that she had a no-contact order out for him. The woman said she drove by the home around 3 p.m. to pick up some belongings and check the mail, but saw Langley's vehicle in the driveway. She called a neighbor to confirm that he was inside.

The woman returned later with her son. Police had the son call his father, whom they spoke to and agreed to meet at the Dunkin Donuts on Connell Highway. Police say Langley admitted to going by the home to pick up a few items, but claimed he still lived there. He was handcuffed and taken to the station for booking.

Warrant Charge

Ashley Marie Levesque, 19, of 15 Sheffield Avenue in Newport, was arrested around 3 a.m. Monday on a 2nd District Court bench warrant.

Police were driving south on America's Cup Avenue toward Thames Street when they noticed the driver in front of them had a license plate that was obstructed by an after-market license plate holder. Police initiated their lights to stop, then asked Levesque for her license, registration and insurance, of which she only had the first on hand. Police confirmed that she had a bench warrant and took her to the station for booking.

Assault, Breaking-and-Entering Charge

Wilman Perez, 24, of North Providence, was arrested around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic simple assault and domestic breaking and entering.

Police were dispatched to the Bayside Village Apartments building, where they found the victim, a 21-year-old Newport woman, walking back and forth in the back lot, and the suspect standing in the lot on the north side. The woman told police that Perez, whom she has a one-month-old daughter with, came over unexpectedly. She said she tried to shut the door on him, but that he overpowered her, shoving his way into the apartment and refusing to leave. The woman said she was on the phone with her mother at the time and told her to call police, while she grabbed her two children and ran outside. Police spoke to the mother on the phone, who confirmed hearing her daughter tell Perez to get out. Perez told police nothing happened and that he was just there to talk about watching their daughter. Police arrested Perez for domestic simple assault and breaking and entering, then transported him to the station for booking.
