Newport Police Log: Weekend Arrests

Man Arrested on Breaking and Entering Charge

Esteban O. Pena Flores, of 61 Admiral Kalbfus Road in Newport, was arrested around 1:20 a.m. Monday on charges of breaking and entering and possession of a weapon.

Police were dispatched to an apartment on Thurston Avenue around 1 a.m., where the resident told police she had been sleeping alone in the bedroom when she heard someone in the apartment. She said she awoke to find a person standing in her bedroom, who upon seeing her walked away and exited through the back door. There was no forced entry, nor was anything taken from the apartment.

An officer located Flores, who matched the description of the suspect, on Bedlow Avenue. The officer patted Flores down and found a 13-inch JH Henckels professional kitchen knife with a 9-inch blade. The victim said that the knife was not hers. Flores was arrested and transported to the station for booking.

Assault Charges

• Dockeem A. McCoy, 23, of 143 Third Street Apt. 6B in Newport, was arrested around 1:58 p.m. Friday on a domestic simple assault charge.

• Rafael Vega Jr., 26, of 208 Moran Apt. 1st in East Providence, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on a simple assault charge in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Broadway.

• Samantha R. Coit, of West Warwick, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. Sunday on a charge of assaulting a health care professional at Newport Hospital. Police were dispatched to the hospital around 3:27 a.m., where they were told Coit had been brought in from Jamestown Rescue to be treated for intoxication. Hospital staff said they had to transport Coit to a different room because she was yelling and screaming. They said she also at one point spit in a ER staff member's face and bit her left forearm. The hospital discharged Coit so that she could be arrested.

Larceny Charges

• Justin L. Turner, 23, of 15 Meeting Street in Newport, was arrested around 2:25 a.m. Saturday on four counts of larceny. Turner had been stopped by police for suspicious activity around 12:04 a.m., but sent on his way. Later at 2:04 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of Roseneath Avenue near Eastnor observed a vehicle with the interior lights on. While investigating, the officer observed a man, Turner, walking on Roseneath. As the officer approached, Turner allegedly dropped something on the ground. He was detained and found to have a large number of coins in his left rear pocket — money that he didn't have on him when he was stopped two hours earlier. The officer retrieved the dropped item — an envelope — and found it contained at 15 percent off coupon to Kohls and a credit card offer. Turner admitted to entering a few vehicles in the area, and said he was willing to point them out. In total, he entered four vehicles, taking $27.66 and the envelope from one, and $7 each from the three others. He was arrested and brought to the station for booking.

• [Name Removed], of Portsmouth, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of attempted larceny and simple assault. Police were dispatched to the area of 7 Catherine Street around 2 a.m. for a report of a fight in progress. Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the victim and his girlfriend. The man said he was walking home from work and met his girlfriend at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Catherine Street when they were approached by two men who began yelling at them, threatening to take their money and assault the girl. The victim said one of the men struck him, and that they also pulled his t-shirt over his head, trapping his head and arms while they reached for his wallet. The victim said he spun around and began to struggle while his girlfriend ran away. The girlfriend ran into the apartment, and the victim eventually ran to hide behind a house to call 911. Officers arrived and were able to detain three men, one being [Name Removed]. The victim and his girlfriend said [Name Removed] was the only one out of the three who was involved in the incident. He was arrested and brought to the station for booking.

Driving Charges

• Karen N. Barker, 35, of 37 Earles Court Apt. 37A in Narragansett, was arrested around 12:50 a.m. Saturday on charges of driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a chemical test, and driving without a license.

• Nicholas Anthony Onorato, 21, of Westport, MA, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana and driving in possession of a controlled substance.

Disorderly Conduct Charge

Raphael Zinno, 20, of 178 Glen Road in Portsmouth, was arrested around 5:55 a.m. Saturday on a disorderly conduct charge.

Warrant Charges

• Amanda Rae Sullivan, 30, of 16 John Chafee Boulevard in Newport, was arrested around 11:40 a.m. Saturday on a charge of violating a no-contact order.

• Brian A. Fay, 47, of 4 Farewell Street Apt. 518 in Newport, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. Saturday on a Superior Court bench warrant.

• Brandon Patrick Gregory, of 76 Park Holm, was arrested around 7 p.m. Sunday on a simple assault charge. Police located Gregory, who had a warrant out for his arrest from a Nov. 4 incident, on Broadway. He was arrested and brought to the station for booking.

• Gerald Lyn McNeill, of Hartford, CT, was arrested around 1 p.m. Sunday on charges of domestic threats and a violation of a no-contact order. McNeill was found in Bayside Village, where he'd been arrested on the charges during a Sept. 4 incident.
