Newport Police Log: Weekend of Sept. 10-12

Drug Charges

• Kristal Elizabeth Johnson, 23, of Providence, was arrested around 1:13 a.m. Sunday on charges of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and driving in possession of a controlled substance. Johnson allegedly failed field sobriety tests after a motor vehicle stop. Officers then spotted the marijuana resting near the gear shift in the vehicle.

• Robert Kyle Osol, 23, of Southborough, MA, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana. Police received a report of an intoxicated man in the area of Harrison Avenue and Helena Road. When police found Osol, he said he was staying at a friend's house, but couldn't provide the name or address. During the conversation, officers observed a plastic baggy in his left front pants pocket, and without saying anything Osol handed it over. Its contents later tested positive for marijuana. A search further revealed he was also in possession of cocaine. He was taken to the station for booking.

• Samuel Nmi Carrasquillo, 23, of 19 Ludlow Street Apt. A in Middletown, was arrested around 12:22 p.m. Sunday on a possession of marijuana charge. Police were dispatched to the Festival Field Apartments complex for a report of a stolen automobile, and when they arrived they found Carrasquillo sitting on top of the vehicle in front of the building. Police patted him down and discovered a cigar blunt. When they asked him if he had any marijuana on him, he handed over two bags, which later weighed in at 2.3 grams. Carrasquillo also had $465 in cash. He advised that the car was registered in his wife's name and was not stolen. Carrasquillo was arrested on the marijuana charge and brought to the station for booking.

Disorderly Charges

• Jaron M. Monroe, 21, of 222 Maple Avenue Apt. 2 in Newport, was arrested on a disorderly threats charge at 4 a.m. Saturday at the Festival Fields Apartments complex after he allegedly threatened someone with a baseball bat.

• Erin M. Frank, 22, of 33 Dennison Street Apt. 1 in Newport, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. Monday on charges of obstruction of an officer and disorderly conduct. Police were dispatched to O'Briens Pub around 12:57 a.m. for a report of an unwanted female. Upon arrival, the doorman told police that she had left and no assistance was required, but shortly thereafter she came back and began pounding on the rear door demanding to be admitted. Police located her lying down behind a large air condition condenser adjacent to the rear entrance. Police say Frank didn't acknowledge their presence and refused to come out until several commands were given to her. Frank allegedly stood up and attempted to walk away. Police asked her for ID and she said she didn't have any, then proceeded to give several false names. Frank said she was there waiting for her boyfriend and refused to leave, saying officers had made a mistake. She was taken to the station for booking.

Drinking Charges

• William R. Hurney, 43, of 18 Homer Street Apt. B in Newport, was arrested around 11:57 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Farewell Street and Broadway on a driving under the influence charge.

• The following individuals were cited with drinking in public at 12:19 a.m. Sunday near Thames and Holland streets: Michael ONeill, 21, of Pawtucket; Rahel Butka, 19, of 41 Ochre Point Avenue in Newport; Sarah Krasnovsky, 19, of Cheshire, CT; and Stephanie Cooper, 18, of Manchester, CT.

Noise Violations

• Juan Montanez, 20, of 27 Park Holm in Newport, was cited on a noise violation at 9:35 p.m. Sunday.
• George Ponte, 20, of Southampton, MA, was cited for a noise violation at 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

• Nichola Balog, 20, of 100 Prospect Hill Street Apt. 3 in Newport, was cited for a noise violation at 9:35 p.m. Sunday.

Assault Charges

• Robert Allen Dashnaw, 45, of East Greenwich, was arrested around 11 a.m. Saturday on charges of domestic breaking and entering, domestic simple assault and simple assault after he allegedly attempted to break into the back of an apartment, then got into a fight with another man.

• Bennie J. Plummer Jr., 32, of 5 Beech Tree Street in Newport, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. Saturday on charges of simple assault and resisting arrest. According to the report, Plummer made degrading remarks as he removed his belongings from a house, then got into a fight with a man. He then allegedly became angry and began swearing at police, attempting to move one officer out of the way with his left hand. The officer then tased him before handcuffing him and bringing him to the station for booking.

• James L. Coppa, 47, of 20 Chapel Street Apt. 24 in Newport, was arrested around 10:50 p.m. Saturday on charges of domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct and a 4th District Court bench warrant for failure to pay. Coppa was allegedly attempting to break into the apartment, where he had been staying for the past few days, through the rear window. He was told by his wife that he couldn't stay there anymore and an argument ensued.

Vandalism Charge

An 8-year-old Newport boy was arrested on two counts of vandalism around 8:23 p.m. Saturday after he allegedly spray painted over the bulkhead of a building, then spray painted a wooden fence.
