NEWPORT, RI — There will be no reserved parking or bathhouses available to the public at Easton's Beach this summer, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The city of Newport said that although the decision is disappointing, it is necessary as part of adjustments to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

"We are terribly disappointed to have to cancel these wonderful community amenities, however as we continue to develop our plans for the upcoming season it is critical that we adjust our operations in order to provide for the safety of both our beachgoers and the community at large," a statement from the city read in part.

No opening date has been set for the beach as of yet, the city said, as officials are still awaiting guidance from Gov. Gina Raimondo's office and the Rhode Island Department of Health.
