Police Still Waiting to Interview Salve Crash Victims

Newport Police are hoping to be able to interview the four Salve Regina students involved in Thursday's crash sometime today.

Lt. William Fitzgerald said that detectives were again unable to interview Michael Canning, 19, of Massapequa, N.Y., Christopher Connors, of Garden City, N.Y., Ian Cadzin of East Rockaway N.Y., and Christopher Wands, of Port Washington, N.Y., on Friday because they were all still sedated. All of the students' conditions reportedly improved over the weekend.

"When you can't talk to the victims themselves, it stalls the case," Fitzgerald said. "Hopefully we'll get it asap."

Police are also still trying to reconstruct the accident, which they say is a complicated one because there were 188 points of reference, making it a rather large scene to process.

Meanwhile, Salve Regina held a vigil Friday night for the victims. Students and faculty gathered at the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel on campus to pray for the young men.
