
Newport police arrested a Portsmouth woman early Thursday after a motor vehicle stop on the northwest side of the city.
Kelly L. Mesler, 21, 0f 78 Pinetree Road in Portsmouth, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
Police patrolling the area stopped Mesler near the intersection of Hillside Avenue and West Evans Street for not having her vehicle lights on. Two Newport residents and a Middletown one were also in the vehicle.

According to the report, the officer detected the odor of burning marijuana in the vehicle, but was unable to find anything during a search.
Police then discovered Mesler had a suspended license and arrested her for the charge. The other vehicle occupants were sent on their way.
