Salve Crash Victims Still at Rhode Island Hospital

As of midday, all four of the Salve Regina students who were involved in the early morning crash near the Breakers mansion are still at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

A patient information representative said Michael Canning, 19, of 25 Prospect Place, Massapequa, N.Y., is still in the intensive care and trauma unit. Canning, the driver in the crash, was admitted earlier today after suffering broken ribs and internal injuries.

Passengers Christopher Connors, of 73 Second St., Garden City, N.Y., and Ian Cadzin of 113 Grant Ave., East Rockaway N.Y., were both waiting to be admitted to rooms as of 1:30 p.m. Connors sustained a broken leg and pelvic bone from the crash. Cadzin suffered a broken femur.

Christopher Wands of 109 Country Club Drive, Port Washington, N.Y., suffered two broken femurs. He was said to be awaiting surgery Thursday afternoon. Wands is the son of psychic medium and New York-area radio show host Jeffrey Wands.

"It's every parents' worse nightmare," said a spokeswoman from Wands' firm. "We are praying for all of them."

Newport Police said Thursday afternoon that the investigation is quickly evolving, but that no new information is being released at this time. Lt. William Fitzgerald said officers are still out at the scene and are interviewing witnesses.
