'Shall We Rock Now?'

Fort Adams is jam-packed for Saturday's lineup of the Newport Folk Festival.

Day two of the Newport Folk Festival is nothing but blissful so far from the warm, scenic setting of Fort Adams State Park.

Rhode Island's own indie success story, The Low Anthem, captivated the Fort Stage crowd around midday, followed by show-stopper Brandi Carlile.

"That's the quietest crowd I've ever heard at a music festival," she remarked after her opener. "Must be music fans out there."

Carlile brought the crowd to its feet during Johnny Cash and Beatles covers. She also commissioned them to be her very own "Newport Folk Festival Choir."

"There was a time I could only dream of attending this festival growing up, and to get to play here twice is just ridiculous," she noted looking out at the crowd.

"Well," she asked later. "Shall we rock?"

Rhode Island's oh-so-fun What Cheer? Brigade popped up after Carlile, entertaining the crowd from a boat parked near the City Wine tent.

Other impressive performances so far include Calexico, Blitzen Trapper, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket and more.

Yim Yames' performance drew a overflowing crowd and garnered a strong, cheering ovation at the end of the set. Festival goers then spilled back over to the Fort Stage for the much-loved Andrew Bird.

"This is my first time in Newport, and I must say," Bird noted, "I'm quite thrilled."

The night was rounded out nicely by long-time favorite John Prine.
