But some races are very close, and emergency and mail ballots could change the outcome.

NEWPORT, RI – The unofficial results from the Town Clerk indicate former Mayor Harry Winthrop collected the most votes in the race for City Council.

Here are the rest of the results. However, the emergency and mail ballots may change some outcomes, given the fact fewer than 100 votes separates a winner from a loser in one race, and other margins of victory are also slim.

City Council Race (At Large): The four top vote-getters win seats.

Henry F. Winthrop: 4,481 (21.1 percent); Jeanne Marie Napolitano: 4,196 (19.7 percent); Jamie P. Bova: 3,659
(17.2 percent); John F. Florez: 3,410 (16 percent); Justin S. McLaughlin: 3,294 (15.5 percent); Kimberly L. Shute: 1,159 (5.5 percent); Claude Andrews Lavarre: 959, (4.5 percent).

Susan D. Taylor: 979 (52.5 percent) versus Marco T. Camacho: 875 (47 percent)

School Committee: The top seven win seats.

Raymond E. Gomes: 3,411 (11 percent); Kathleen M. Silvia: 3,228 (10.4 percent); Jo Eva Gaines: 3,042 (9.8 percent); Rebecca Bolan: 2,988 (9.6 percent); Sandra J. Flowers: 2,835 (9.2 percent); David R. Carlin, III: 2,743 (8.9 percent); David Charles Hanos, Jr. 2,476 (8 percent); Robert J. Leary: 2,445 (7.9 percent); Jennifer Elizabeth Jackson: 2,035 (6.6 percent); Henry P. Kniskern: 2,034 (6.6 percent); Thomas S. Phelan: 1,882 (6.1 percent); Adrienne Clemente Haylor: 1,764 (5.7 percent).

Newporters voted up all seven ballot questions.

In the General Assembly races, M. Teresa Paiva Weed defeated Sav Rebecchi for the Senate District 13 seat, while Louis P. DePalma beat Amy Veri for District 12 Senate.

In the only contested House race, incumbent Laura Carson defeated Independent Mike Smith.
