'Ace Your Way To Better Health' Tournament Scores Success

Inaugural event raises $133K for YMCA's seven branches.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI - From the YMCA of Greater Providence: The YMCA of Greater Providence is pleased to announce it raised $133,000 at its first “Ace Your Way to Better Health” golf tournament and sports memorabilia night on September 26th at Alpine Country Club. The funds will support the unique health and wellness programs the YMCA of Greater Providence offers, including the LIVESTRONG cancer survivorship program, diabetes prevention, programs to curb the effects of Parkinson’s disease, and more.

The sold-out event included 18 holes of golf, a meet and greet with local sports legends, dinner, and an
auction featuring unique sports memorabilia, as well as a presentation from local sports leaders.

Emcee Yianni Kourakis, award-winning Sports Director for WPRI 12, moderated a discussion among Mike
Pressler, head coach of Bryant University’s men’s lacrosse; Ed Cooley, head coach of the Providence College men’s basketball team; Mary Burke, head coach of Bryant University’s women’s basketball team; Elizabeth Biesel, Olympic swimmer and 2017 “Y Hero” award recipient; and Eliesel Morales, the member of the GPYMCA Board of Directors and community advocate, who spoke about the impact team sports and healthy living have had on their personal and professional lives.

O’Donnell, CEO, YMCA of Greater Providence. “It was an honor to hear from our local sports legends who truly live the Y’s mission of building healthy spirits, minds, and bodies, and we are proud to know that the support of this event will allow us to impact even more families and individuals.”
