Band Vice-President Wins President's Job

Jackie Lamoureux has been elected president of the Lafayette Band of North Kingstown for 2016-17.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI -- North Kingstown resident Jackie Lamoureux has moved up the leadership ladder.

She's been elected president of the Lafayette Band of North Kingstown for 2016-17.

Lamoureux was previously vice-president. Now, she'll head the band’s new leadership team, consisting of treasurer Bonnie Dynon and board member Steve Alfano, both of North Kingstown; vice-president Jean Neves and board member Jessica Neves, both of Exeter; secretary Maria DiNitto of Richmond; and past president John Smith of Cranston.

Based in North Kingstown, the band draws its members from many communities in Southeast New England.
The repertoire is diverse. The band members play show tunes and marches, big band and swing, solo and ensemble pieces, and classical overtures. The group’s yearly schedule includes the Armed Forces Salute and Memorial Day performances in May, as well as weekly outdoor concerts in the summer, and performances at area nursing homes.

Look for them at the Wickford Festival of Lights concert in December.

The community concert band was founded more than 130 years ago and is one of the oldest ensembles in Rhode Island.
