Art School in a Day: Painting the Portrait

“Art School in a Day!” is a one day version of “Art School in a Week!”: an intensive art experience created by artist David Schock to rapidly and effectively teach the basics of drawing and painting taught in the first year of art school.

Art school usually involves a great deal of wasted time on discussion and lengthy, repetitive analysis. This class cuts through all this and directly teaches hands on skills needed by the art student quickly and powerfully.

This one-day class focuses on the unique skills necessary to paint portraits. Students will be taught the basics of seeing, drawing and painting while working on a portrait in oil, to be completed in class. Subjects will include composition, palette, brushes, working method and how to finish a painting.
